A cool afternoon saw a mach of two halves, the first neither team created many chances Lemarechal coming close for Cercle on two occasions whilst Da Silva also had a good effort, but Ghent custodian Nardi was having a decent game and stopped the effort. Immediately after half-time it was the first kick that became an instant chance through Denkey and Somers, Lopes-Da Silva was the finisher 1-0. Bad luck for about half of the supporters who were still ordering a pint somewhere in the catacombs.
Ghent had to come next Vanhaezebrouck opted for four new players, with some quirky dribbles from Fofana, among others. Watanabe had a chance, but kicked without conviction. And after that it was mainly Denkey who showed good intentions for Cercle, but was a little too often offside or missed open chances and it took until the 97th minute for Denkey to add the second goal beating the Ghent defence and Nardi 2-0.
